LaLiga has received the award for the "Best competition of the year" in the awards given by the Sina Weibo platform, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, and the specialized medium ScoreSport (Qiduoduo).
Days after reaching an important agreement with China Mobile, which drastically expands the reach of Spanish professional football in the Asian country, LaLiga continues to achieve success in China. The Spanish championship has been chosen as the Best competition of last year, after counting the votes of experts in the sector (50%), fans (25%) and analyzing the annual metrics of Sina Weibo (25%) and shares this award with the local championship, the Chinese Super League.
Among the reasons cited, the commitment of LaLiga with local fans stands out, in a year full of challenges such as the past, to be able to organize face-to-face events such as the public viewing of ElClásico that was organized in Shanghai or the farewell event of the year with Turespaña.
Likewise, emphasis has been placed on the great digital commitment of LaLiga through projects such as the eLaLiga Fan Cup and its clubs, with a special mention to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, recognized in these awards as two of the most influential clubs in the social networks of the country.
“This type of award is a recognition of the work that, from LaLiga, we have been doing for years. 2020 was a very difficult year for all of us and we had to innovate, redouble our efforts and adapt to situations that we had not imagined. Despite everything, we managed to get the ball rolling again and to be able to get even closer to the Chinese fans, one of our great goals in the country,”said Sergi Torrents, LaLiga director in China.
The award, which will be delivered directly to the winners after ruling out a ceremony due to the current situation of the pandemic, recognizes the work of LaLiga and its clubs in China, where in 2020, in addition to the aforementioned, it achieved a new agreement for the broadcast of his encounters with China Mobile Migu, which joins the existing one with iQiyi Sports and which will allow more fans in China to follow the Spanish championship live.
