Performance tests of the Chinese-made magnetic levitation (maglev) prototype, with a top speed of 600 km / h, started in Shanghai today.
The single-car test prototype can review and optimize key technologies and essential components of the high-speed maglev train system and lay the technological foundation for the next engineering prototype, according to CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., the train manufacturer Based in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong.
During the first test conducted today on the maglev test line, more than 200 components were analyzed, including deviation working conditions, small curves and ramps, the company said.
The prototype magnetic levitation train was manufactured in May on the company's production line in Qingdao City, Shandong.
Ding Sansan, head of the CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co. research and development team, said preliminary reviews found the vehicle to be stable. "All of the key technical indicators met the design requirements and expectations," said Ding.
Ding noted that high-speed maglev transportation is a four-part hitch system: vehicles, traction power system, operation control communication, and line tracking.
Through prototype testing, the interface relationship of a high-speed maglev system under dynamic conditions can be preliminarily verified, providing support for the verification and optimization of the performance of the system and its essential components.
The company said research and development of a five-car design prototype of the high-speed maglev is proceeding smoothly. It is slated to roll off the production line in 2020.
Maglev trains generate less noise due to the absence of friction between wheels and tracks. In addition, its minimum radius of return is only half that of a subway, allowing better evasion of buildings in route planning.
